KĀPITI
COAST DISTRICT POISED FOR GROWTH
The Kāpiti
Coast District economy continues to experience healthy
economic growth with a reported 3.1 % increase over the
September 2016 year.
Sarah Stevenson, Group Manager for
Strategy and Planning says much of this can be attributed to
the growth and success of our local businesses including
tourism and retail.
“There was a 14% increase in
visitor guest nights, compared with 5.9% for the Wellington
region and 6.2% nationally.
“Retail trade is also up
2.9% compared with 1.7% for the Wellington region and 2.7%
nationally,” said Ms Stevenson.
Quarterly economic data
released by Infometrics shows the Kāpiti Coast is
benefiting from a combination of population growth,
increased investment in property and infrastructure, and
improved job prospects throughout the Wellington
region.
“Kāpiti has a diverse and thriving business
community and the data reinforces the positive contribution
these businesses are making to our economy.
“Our close
proximity to Wellington will be significantly enhanced once
the Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway opens and we are already
beginning to see evidence of this through an upward trend in
visitor guest nights and an increasing number of people and
businesses wanting to call Kāpiti home,” says Ms
Stevenson.

KĀPITI ROAD IMPROVEMENTS –
ARAWHATA ROAD TO NGAHINA STREET
Work to
underground power and create a new 2.5 metre shared path
facility on the south side of Kāpiti Road between Arawhata
Road and Ngahina Street is progressing.
This weekend
contractors will be onsite pulling down overhead power lines
and removing power poles to make way for the new shared
path.
Group Manager Infrastructure Services Sean Mallon
says this work will be carried out on Friday evening between
7pm and 5.30am and on Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
“There
will be some disruption while this work is carried out but
we aim to keep this to a minimum and traffic management will
be in place.”
The Kāpiti Coast District Council
expects to complete its shared path improvements at the
Paraparaumu town centre end of Kāpiti Road in January,
subject to a fine spell of weather.
Further works to
improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and accessibility on
the south side of Kāpiti Road outside Mitre 10 Mega and
from outside the old airport control tower to McGrath Street
will commence in the next few
weeks.
