Howick Local Board Botany subdivision by-election

6 December 2016
Howick Local Board Botany subdivision by-election:
Where is the Botany subdivision?
Interested in standing or nominating a candidate to contest the Howick Local Board Botany subdivision by-election but not sure where the boundaries are?

Check out the Botany subdivision at aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/elections or at a local library or service centre as listed below:

· Botany Library: Level 1 Sunset Terrace, Botany Town Centre
· Tupu Youth Library: 102 Dawson Road, Otara
· Manukau Service Centre:4 Osterley Way, Kotuku House, Manukau
It’s important you do know the boundaries as every candidate nomination has to be supported by two electors who are enrolled in the Botany subdivision.

The Botany subdivision does not include the suburb of Botany Downs. It does encompass Flat Bush, East Tamaki, East Tamaki Heights and Ormiston and is one of the fastest growing areas in the country in terms of development and population.

Nominations for candidates opened on 24 November and close at noon on 22 December.

To date Mark Johnson (Labour) and Mike Turinsky (Practical Not Political) have put their names in the ring to fill the vacancy left by Lucy Schwaner’s resignation shortly after the local body elections. The resignation triggered the need for a by-election to find a new representative.

If you want to get involved and stand for the Howick Local Board you need to be:
· Over the age of 18
· A New Zealand citizen registered on the electoral roll
· Have two electors enrolled in the Botany subdivision nominate you.
· Get your nomination in by noon on Thursday 22 December.

Each nomination must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 GST inclusive.
For further information on standing as a candidate, visit aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/elections or contact the Auckland Council Electoral Office on 09-973-5212.

Voting documents will be posted to Botany subdivision’s eligible voters from Thursday 26 January 2017, with voting closing at noon on Friday 17 February 2017.
