Power outage in Upper North Island - UPDATE 2

Transpower would like to advise that they are currently experiencing a power outage on their network in the Upper North Island.

Our crews have now located the cause of the fault on the transmission lines as a result of their patrols. Three transmission towers, across both transmission circuits have a number of their glass insulators damaged (see photo attached).

We suspect, but cannot confirm, the cause of this damage to be malicious with firearm bullet casings found at the base of the towers where damage has occurred. The Northland Police have been advised.

Our focus is now on repairing the damage quickly to restore power to the region. Materials are currently being moved to site from Wellsford. Once these arrive, repairs will begin.

The proposed restoration time for power to the region is early this evening. We will provide more precise timings as the day progresses. Residents and business should prepare for the remainder of the working day without power.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. We will undertake the repairs as quickly as it is possible to do so.
