Taumarunui projects well underway
It’s been a very busy end to the year in Taumarunui with progress being made on a number of revitalization and development projects.
In addition to the launch of the Taumarunui Town Project Plans Council contractors have been working hard on the northern entrance enhancement project that will ultimately see picnic areas and a walkway down to the river.
The contractors have just finished off the first stage of the walkway down to the river and will be starting again first thing in the New Year.
Down at Cherry Grove Horizons Regional Council has just finished cutting and clearing trees as part of their Upper Whanganui River Management Scheme.
In the New Year the area will be excavated to remove stumps then Council’s Property Team will work with Horizons on replanting options for the newly cleared area.
The northern entrance and Cherry Grove projects are part of a larger Taumarunui River Walk and Cycleway Project with a vision to ultimately have a walk and cycleway that follows the Ongarue and Whanganui Rivers from the Ongarue River bridge to the Whanganui River bridge at Manunui.
These projects form part of the exciting journey of township revitalization underway in Taumarunui and other Ruapehu townships.
