Ultra-fast broadband for Ōtaki

Ultra-fast broadband for Ōtaki

Ōtaki is one of 151 towns around the country that will be given access to ultra-fast broadband (UFB) in the near future.

In the second phase of the Government’s rollout, installation of UFB for these towns will start this year and be completed between 2018 and 2024 with each build taking up to 12 months.

“We are delighted UFB is coming to Ōtaki,” says Council’s Group Manager Strategy & Planning, Sarah Stevenson. “Faster internet connection will benefit our businesses and the community, as it will help grow our economy, improve outcomes in education and increase employment opportunities while supporting community collaboration.”

With stiff competition for speedier internet access from other districts around the country, the Council made a compelling case to be part of the second stage of the UFB rollout back in 2015.

“The hard work put into this bid thankfully paid off as having better connections regionally and nationally is critical for Ōtaki to thrive, being a rapidly growing area in our district.”

Once all installations in this phase are finished, up to 85% of New Zealanders will have access to UFB.
