Marlborough sports clubs invited to use new Lansdowne facilities
With plans well advanced for Lansdowne Park’s new sports hub pavilion, the Marlborough District Council is inviting Marlborough’s sports clubs to outline how they wish to use the new administration building.
The pavilion is part of the Council’s $4.8M multi-stage redevelopment of Lansdowne Park, one of the biggest investments in sports amenities to be made in this district.
Council is working with designers to come up with a concept that will cater for current and potential users of the park.
“While the sports already based at Lansdowne - Marlborough Rugby, Netball, Softball and Touch - have had their say, Council now wants to hear from any other sports or recreation groups that might want to use the facilities; we’re asking for expressions of interest for use of the pavilion from sports clubs large or small,” says Council reserves and amenities planner Mark Witehira.
Clubs may choose to rent office space or just a desk, they may only require casual use of a ‘hot desk’ and office equipment, or they might hire a meeting room for their AGMs, he said.
“This truly is a community facility, as well as a significant investment in Marlborough’s sports and recreation infrastructure, so we want the sports community to tell us how it is going to work best for them.”
The pavilion building itself will be a similar shape to Renwick’s Giesen Sports and Events Centre and the Port Marlborough Pavilion at Picton’s Endeavour Park.
Sports clubs are encouraged to contact the Council with their requirements or suggestions.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for us all to work together to ensure all sporting codes that wish to be involved in this brand new sports hub are catered for,” says Mr Witehira.
Sports clubs should outline their interest in a message to Mark Witehira at the Marlborough District Council (03) 520 7400 or by email to mark.witehira@marlborough.govt.nz
