Only limited parking at Lansdowne Park this weekend

Only limited parking at Lansdowne Park this weekend

If you’re heading to Lansdowne Park for a game this weekend, please allow a bit of extra time to get to your seat by kick-off.

Parking won’t be available in the usual car parking area immediately inside the main entrance to the park because the surface is being prepared for sealing and new netball courts are being laid.

The long-awaited improvement to the parking area is part of the multi-stage redevelopment of Lansdowne Park to convert it into a multi-sport hub.

People should prepare to park in nearby streets or arrange to be dropped off at the park as there will be very limited space for vehicles until the sealing is completed next week.

“This will be an end to the potholes and dust which have been part and parcel of parking at Lansdowne for a long time now. We’ve had many complaints about it but we needed to complete major underground stormwater upgrading before we could deal with the surfaces,” said Council Assets and Services Committee chairman Terry Sloan.

“We regret there will be some inconvenience while the sealing is being done but the contractors have worked hard to minimize the disruption to park users. However they needed a period of undisturbed access to the carpark to prepare it for asphalting.”

Getting the work done now means people can be assured there’ll be a smooth and sealed surface which doesn’t fill with deep puddles as the winter weather sets in, he said.

The netball courts have already been marked out and, so long as the weather holds, good progress should also be made on them over the week ahead.

ENDS.
