Marlborough sports facilities hit by rain

Marlborough sports facilities hit by rain

The wet weather is starting to affect sports grounds and playing surfaces and they are likely to be closed until Friday.

Eleven of the 13 Council sports parks, including the Wither Hills Mountain Bike Park, have been closed today, to protect their surfaces.

Keep a check on which sports grounds are open by going to the Council website www.marlborough.govt.nz where the status of each venue is updated each weekday around noon. Go to the Recreation tab near the top of the page and look under Parks and Reserves to find Sports Parks.

Look at Status (Open/Closed) to check whether your ground is open.

Please note that this list is not updated during the weekend or on public holidays.

For Marlborough, the worst of the weather is predicted for the Kaikoura Coast where bursts of heavy rain are likely until Thursday morning. In the 21 hours, from 9am today to 6am Thursday, 100 to 130mm of rain is forecast there with the heaviest rainfall in the ranges where peak intensities of up to 10 to 20mm per hour are expected.

ENDS.
