New Lynn set to re-open for business
New Lynn’s business community met with
Auckland Council last night to hear about progress to
re-open Great North Road following successive weather
events.
About 90 businesses and members of the New Lynn Business Association attended the meeting at the New Lynn RSA to hear that re-opening the town centre’s main road for business is the council’s priority.
Barry Potter, Director of Infrastructure and Environmental Services, has since confirmed that weather-permitting - particularly with this evening’s cyclone – that the Great North Rd and Clark St intersection may be re-opened as soon as Friday morning following a site inspection.
“We would like to thank the New Lynn community for their patience over the last month while we’ve got on with the job at hand. It’s important we re-open the area as soon as possible so businesses can begin trading again over the long weekend.”
Whau Local Board chair Tracy Mulholland says: “Our community has shown resilience through an incredibly testing time and now we have some certainty, long-term, about the impact this work will have on New Lynn.
“A working party has been established, with members from the local board, business association and council, ensuring the New Lynn community has a voice as we work towards a solution for Great North Road.”
New Lynn businesses and residents can sign up for regular newsletter updates on work progress on the council’s website.
