Keen interest in city’s 2017-2018 proposed Annual Plan
Nearly 600 submissions on the Council’s 2017-2018 Annual Plan have been received since the calling for submissions on 28 March.
Submissions close at 5pm on Friday 28 April.
“I’m delighted people are making their views known on an Annual Plan that marks a huge step forward towards a bright future for our citizens, our children and our grandchildren,” says Mayor Ray Wallace.
“This plan is an important milestone in our journey of rejuvenation we started four years ago,” he said.
The 2017-2018 Annual Plan proposes a number of new initiatives, including the RiverLink project designed to better link the CBD with the Hutt River with a promenade, recreational facilities, sensitive landscaping, roading changes and walking and cycling connections to the CBD.
It also proposes a programme of rationalisation and renewal of the Council-owned wharves, developing new and upgrading existing cultural, recreation and events facilities and continued improvements to city infrastructure.
“We are recommending a financial strategy to support these developments which will increase our borrowing ability. This will enable us to spread the cost fairly across present and future generations.
“We are proposing only a modest average 2.3 percent rates increase, possibly the lowest in the Wellington region,” Mayor Wallace said.
The consultation document, Growing Our City, which includes a submission form, is available online at huttcity.govt.nz/annualplan, or local libraries, Council’s administration building on Laings Road and Hutt City i-SITE.
Residents can also make a submission online at huttcity.govt.nz/annualplan, email feedback to annualplan@huttcity.govt.nz, write to Council and deliver comments to a local library, Council’s administration building at 30 Laings Road, or freepost to Annual Plan, FreePost 100039, Private Bag 31912, Lower Hutt 5040.
