Breaking news from the Nelson Arts Festival team

Breaking news from the Nelson Arts Festival team
2 May 2017

The date for the 2017 Masked Parade and Carnivale has been changed from Friday 20 October to Friday 27 October, to avoid clashes with Labour Weekend plans.

Chair of the Community Services Committee, Cllr Gaile Noonan, says the date change was made after feedback from the community.

“We hope this date works well for lots of people and that everyone, young and old, will come out to support this fantastic community event!”

The Masked Parade is an iconic Nelson public art event which attracts schools, families, community groups, businesses and individuals of all ages to make masks, dress up and take part in this fabulous fun festive occasion.

The theme this year is “We are the World” – a concept that is open to interpretation and storytelling in costume, music and dance, live on the streets of Nelson.

“Whatever story you want to tell - about our environment, our people, or global issues that are important to you – the Masked Parade is a fun, visual and exciting opportunity to show off your creative side,” says Cllr Noonan.

The parade is followed by the Carnivale, a free family-friendly street party held in central Nelson which includes live music, games, food stalls and a dedicated youth zone.

Enrolments are now open, so don't be shy. Get a team together! Take part! Enrol here
