Council’s performance under the spotlight
Auckland Council’s Finance and Performance Committee today met and considered a number of items relating to council performance.
The committee received reports on the council’s performance for the period to 31 March 2017, council-controlled organisations (CCOs) and the Auckland Council Group quarterly financial report.
Committee chair, Councillor Ross Clow, said the performance and financial reports showed that the council was largely on track, but that challenges to improve remain.
“As a council, it is important that elected members are kept up to date on how the council is progressing against its agreed targets,” Cllr Clow said.
“While there are a number of areas that the council is delivering on track, such as meeting targets on domestic waste collection and D/E-graded food premises being re-inspected within one month, there are still challenges in areas such as building and resource consents where we are not meeting the 20-day processing target.
“At the same time we acknowledge that a great deal of work is going into improving those areas, from initiatives under way such as Consenting Made Easy through to the recruitment of more staff in those areas to deal with the demand we are experiencing.
“In terms of our finances, continued prudent financial management means we maintain our solid credit ratings, while results show that we are largely tracking to budget, which is very positive given our commitment to delivering value for money services to a rapidly growing Auckland.”
The committee also heard performance updates from and asked questions of the following CCOs:
· Regional Facilities
Auckland
· Auckland Transport
·
Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development
·
Panuku Development Auckland
· Auckland Council
Investments Limited
· Watercare Services
The agenda is available on Auckland Council’s website and minutes will be added once confirmed. This meeting was also webcast on the council’s website and items are available on demand.
