Called ‘’unbelievably beautiful’’, and ‘’absolutely stunning’’ by visitors and a must-see by the Dominion Post, He Tohu is Wellington’s newest permanent exhibition of three of New Zealand’s iconic constitutional documents:

• 1835 He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni — Declaration of Independence of the United Tribes of New Zealand

• 1840 Te Tiriti o Waitangi — Treaty of Waitangi

• 1893 Women’s Suffrage Petition — Te Petihana Whakamana Pōti Wahine.

At the National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa, He Tohu features a state-of-the-art conservation space, designed to preserve the documents for generations to come. Exciting interactives enable visitors to engage with the documents in new ways and discover their own personal connections.

He Tohu is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday at the National Library of New Zealand, Molesworth Street, Wellington. Entry is free. www.hetohu.nz
