Public Transport Candidates’ Debate Helensville

Public Transport Candidates’ Debate, this Sunday 23 July
Saturday 22 July 2017
The Public Transport Users Association (PTUA) is hosting an election candidates’ public transport debate for the Helensville electorate, at 2pm, this Sunday 23 July at the Kumeu Community Centre.

The ‘Trains to Huapai’ campaign is an alliance between local residents, the PTUA and the North West District Business Association (NWDBA). It aims to see hourly return rail services between Huapai and Swanson or Henderson using existing railway lines and trains.

The meeting will be attended by candidates from the National, Labour, Greens and New Zealand First parties. Also present will be members of the Rodney Local Board and the NWDBA.

The members of the Trains to Huapai alliance will outline their case for rail services using diesel rolling stock in the short term, followed by an introduction by the candidates about why they’re running for the Helensville seat. This will be followed by a panel discussion on public transport issues in the area. The candidates will then be asked to sign a pledge to support the Trains to Huapai campaign. The meeting will end with questions from the floor.

The organisers say the Trains to Huapai initiative has gained huge local support since its launch a week ago and look forward to the cause gathering momentum as the campaign proceeds.
