Raetihi Christmas Carnival & Parade 9 December

Raetihi Christmas Carnival & Parade 9 December

On December 9, all the fun of the fairly unusual will be taking place at the annual Raetihi Christmas Carnival and parade.

Planning has been intense, with many excited Elves trying to work out how to fit in all the action and entertainment in the time allowed.

The market day begins on Seddon Street at 9.00 am when the road is closed and the band starts playing. The parade takes place at lunchtime. This is always a highlight and has great cash prizes for the top three floats, so get your thinking caps on and be at the saleyards by 12.30 for judging.

New for this year is Ride on Mower racing. Beginning at 10.30 there will be timed heats starting from outside Dekker machinery, who are sponsoring a prize for the grand winner. We need numbers for organizational purposes, so please register your interest by Friday 8. Email 36seddon@gmail.com or phone Lucy on 385 3123. Please remove your cutting blades and wear your safety earmuffs and helmets. There may be extra points for decorations.

To honour the memory of our great friend Susan Granville, there is a Christmas stocking treasure hunt taking place in the week before the Parade. Various places around town will have a picture of a Stocking, with a number on it between 1 and 15. Find all the stockings, and be in to win a real Christmas stocking with presents in it. Free to enter, pick up a form at the Raetihi Info centre. Winners announced on the day.

Speaking of stalls, regulars will have their forms posted to them, to be filled in and returned. If you don’t get one, please call in to the Raetihi Information centre and pick one up, fill it in and return it with payment. After your form has been returned, and fee paid, you’ll be assigned a stall number. If you plan to sell food of any kind, you need to fill in one of the council forms as well, and have it back to the committee by December 1, so we can send them all in to the council. Stall numbers are limited, so please don’t delay.
