Have your say on safety improvements for State
Highway 1, Mosgiel to Balclutha
The NZ Transport Agency is inviting the community to have their say on ways to improve safety on State Highway 1 between Mosgiel and Balclutha.
Transport Agency System Manager, Graeme Hall says they’ll be at South Otago and Tokomairiro A & P Shows to share information on possible improvements and to get feedback.
“This is an important stretch of highway. It’s the main link between Dunedin and Southland, but too many people have been killed or seriously injured,” Mr Hall says.
“In the 10 years to the end of 2015, 12 people were killed and 66 were seriously injured on this road. We want to make sure that when drivers make mistakes they don’t result in someone dying or being seriously injured.
“To do this we need the community’s help. The local people who use this road and live near it, know it better than anyone else. We’re keen to hear their views on how we could make it safer.
“We’d encourage anyone who’s interested to come along to one of the A & P shows and hear more about the project, and have their say. If they can’t make it, they can still share their views online or by mail.”
Safety improvements to SH1 between Mosgiel to Balclutha are part of the $600 million Safe Roads and Roadsides Programme for reducing deaths and serious injuries on high-risk rural highways.
