Record number of stars to line Wellington’s waterfront for City Mission’s Christmas Appeal!
The Wellington City Mission is excited to display a record number of stars on their Christmas Walk of Fame this year! From this Friday 1 December close to 170 pre-ordered stars will line Wellington’s beautiful waterfront as part of The Mission’s Christmas Star Appeal! This number will continue to grow as more people add their name or logo to the Walk of Fame over the coming weeks.
It’s the third year The Mission has done their Walk of Fame and each year it continues to get even bigger and better. Generous local businesses, individuals, families and groups have purchased the naming rights to the Hollywood Walk of Fame-style stars, and each one represents families being supported this Christmas and beyond. The stars will be displayed on the waterfront near Te Papa from 1 – 26 December.
Wellington City Mission Chief Executive Officer Michelle Branney said: “It has been amazing to see how the Walk of Fame has grown each year and become an established display in Wellington. This year we’ve been blown away by the generosity of people and businesses with a record number of stars pre-ordered!
We are so thankful for everyone who gets behind this campaign – they really are making a huge difference.
We hope people will enjoy visiting their stars, knowing that each one represents families being supported both at Christmas and into the New Year. Of course we’re not done yet, let’s see how far we can make the Walk of Fame stretch this year!”
Anyone who would like to get a star on the Walk of Fame can simply head to www.ChristmasStar.co.nz to purchase one for their family, business, group or team. There are a number of star options available including an exclusive Gold Star.
The launch of the Walk of Fame also coincides with The Mission’s annual Street Day, also happening on Friday 1 December! Hundreds of Street Day volunteers will be collecting throughout Greater Wellington between 7am – 7pm, at locations including Wellington City, Wellington airport, Johnsonville, Porirua, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt. Thanks to the continuing support of EFTPOS NZ, many sites will again be equipped with eftpos facilities for the convenience of donors. The Mission encourages people to keep an eye out for collectors in their area on Friday for an opportunity to donate.
The Mission’s Walk of Fame and Street Day are key parts of their annual Christmas Star Appeal. The generous donations received during this appeal will help The Mission to make a life-changing difference in our region both now and into the New Year. They will provide families with food parcels and gifts so they can celebrate Christmas together, while continuing to offer year-round services such as financial mentoring and in-home social work too.
