Strike Notice Issued by RMTU for Friday 1 December
Strike Notice Issued by RMTU for Friday 1 December, Despite Ongoing Negotiations with Transdev
29 NOVEMBER 2017, 6.00PM
The Rail & Maritime Transport Union (RMTU) has issued Transdev with a strike notice for another full day strike on Friday 1 December. This is despite ongoing negotiations between the two parties, including a scheduled meeting for Thursday 30 November.
Friday 1 December is the last chance that the RMTU could take industrial action under the current ballot. Transdev question the legality of this strike.
There will be no train services in Wellington on Friday 1 December so please arrange alternative transport and expect delays. Transdev apologises for the disruption to travel plans.
“With the assistance of a mediator we have met with the RMTU twice for negotiations since the 16 November and have agreed a scheduled meeting for Thursday 30 November to continue negotiations. We are disappointed that passengers will be impacted again unnecessarily”, Said David Gould, People and Culture Manager at Transdev Wellington.
“Good faith negotiations are all about give and take, and we want to continue a collaborative approach to finding solutions with our staff and their union. At our negotiations sessions on the 21 and 27 November, we really felt that some progress was made and we do not understand why the RMTU have chosen further strike action”
“Our staff will be better off with the package tabled, as we have accepted all of the RMTU’s claims and offered a pay increase for all staff which would see an increase in pay and allowances of around 2%.
“We are preparing for the future of rail in Wellington and looking to grow the number and scope of services provided, such as improved infrastructure, electronic ticketing, increased services – all of which will require more staff.”
