Hastings: Heads up: Roundabout resurfacing work
Heads up: Roundabout resurfacing work
The resurfacing of the roads around two of the district’s roundabouts will be carried out over the last two weeks of this month.
Work on the Guthrie Rd and Nimmon St (Havelock North) roundabout will start this Friday [January 19] and take just over a week, weather permitting. Residents in the vicinity of the work have been advised and general road users are being asked to avoid the intersection if possible. While the roads will not be closed, there will be traffic management in place and there could be delays.
The second roundabout is
in Mangateretere, at the intersection of Te Mata
Mangateretere, Pilcher and Lawn roads. That work started
today [January 15] and is expected to be completed by
January 27, weather permitting. That project will require
the closure of the intersection from Saturday, January 21,
again weather permitting. Road users will be detoured around
the site, using State Highway 2.
“It is important that
we get the repairs to the surfaces at these intersections
completed while the weather is good,” said Hastings
District Council works and services committee chairman Kevin
Watkins.
“With the Guthrie Rd roundabout in particular, it is also important that we get it done before the school year starts.”
Mr Watkins said delays would be kept to a
minimum and the contractors would be doing everything they
could to ensure the jobs were completed as quickly possible.
“We do appreciate that these works have an impact on
people and we thank everyone for their
patience.”
