Urgent Water Restrictions for Hawea

Urgent Water Restrictions for Hawea

Hawea Residents are asked to urgently conserve water today as emergency repairs are undertaken to the local water treatment plant.

QLDC chief engineer Ulrich Glasner said a critical electrical protection device at the Hawea water treatment plant has failed, requiring immediate replacement to avoid damage to the essential infrastructure.  The work will take approx. three hours to complete.  “We have had to shut off the water to complete the repairs which we expect to be complete by 5pm,” Mr Glasner said.

“Hawea residents will continue to  have access to water from the storage reservoir. However, we are seeking the community’s assistance to avoid the risk of disruption by conserving water this afternoon.”

The cause of the component failure is unknown but an investigation will follow the emergency repairs.
