A Second Man Falls at Vinegar Hill
A Second Man Falls at Vinegar
Hill
The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Vinegar Hill just after 7 am on Saturday 27 January, where a man in his 50's was injured in a fall down a 100m cliff face on to the riverside across the from Vinegar Hill campground, approximately 20 metres from where the young man was recovered early Friday morning.
Due to the terrain, the team elected to use the aircraft hoist to recover the man. He was stabilised by Ambulance and Fire volunteers who swam the river before a Police SAR team member was hoisted in to extract the man.
The volunteers were recovered by hover load further along the river bank. The man was then treated for his injuries and made comfortable before being airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital for further assessment.
