Auckland Transport: Marching with Pride

Auckland Transport (AT) has announced its participation in the 2018 Auckland Pride Festival.

Chief Executive Shane Ellison says this is a significant milestone for Auckland Transport as it’s the first time the council controlled organisation will participate in the Pride Parade. “Our participation in the parade sends out a powerful message that AT is committed to creating a truly diverse and inclusive organisation, supporting its LGBTQIA+ staff and the wider community.

“Auckland Transport believes everyone should feel valued, respected, safe and supported, regardless of our differences. This is not only the right thing to do, but is also a demonstration of our corporate social responsibility.

“I am also very pleased that AT has taken a positive move in promoting our diversity and inclusion programme across the business to build a workplace where we celebrate the different perspectives and talents of all our staff. Our participation in the Pride Parade is a small step towards achieving this goal.

“Celebrating Pride was born out of a reason to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community’s right to exist as equal partners in society without discrimination. And it gives me great pleasure to announce that we are joining the Rainbow Tick accreditation programme,” says Mr Ellison.

The Rainbow Tick accreditation is a quality and process improvement programme designed to make an organisation a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for people of diverse gender identity and sexual orientation. Its aim is to help organisations create policies and processes that drive a supportive and productive workplace that specifically recognises and welcomes sexual and gender diversity.

The Pride Parade is on this Saturday, 17 February.
