Black Dog Brewery opens their new Cuba Street Location

Opening their doors amongst the bustling, eclectic mix of residents on Cuba Street, Black Dog Brewery is once again brewing up a storm in the heart of New Zealand’s thriving craft beer capital.

Black Dog Brewery’s Top Dog, Adrian Klemp says, “We’re thrilled to open our doors once again to all Wellingtonians and this time be a part of the Cuba Street community. The new brewery will be a space that really compliments the area’s creative soul. We’ve got a busy year ahead of us, so it’s exciting to be part of the contagious Cuba Street energy.”

Black Dog’s new kennel is full of historic character. Located at 216 Cuba Street, the two-level Edwardian 1920’s building expresses an understated, fun and quintessentially ‘Cuba Street’ interior. A mix of raw industrial character in our ground floor brewery and tasting room with an old antique charm in the upstairs bar which brings a relaxed, fun, and contemporary atmosphere to the new Black Dog HQ.

To further bring to life the new space, Black Dog partnered with three local Wellington artists, Kelly Spencer, Mica Still and Sean Duffell to create a large wall mural depicting the brand’s collaborative spirit. This comes as a natural fit to celebrate Wellington and its growth as a city fused by creative artisans, proving ideas can really come from anywhere, and even better when it’s a team effort. The mural is a mix of the three styles featuring hand-crafted lettering, bold dog characters, abstract shapes, and symmetrical patterns.

“The new brewery is a great move for us as a brand, it’s no secret that Wellington is the craft beer capital of New Zealand and arguably one of the best craft beer areas in the world. The move to the iconic Cuba street is bringing us into the thick of Wellington culture and arts, it is only fitting that we incorporate some of the local creative residents into our new home and collectively celebrate Wellington by coming together,” Klemp added.

The brewery on the ground level will be producing small batch beers to supply their bar upstairs as well as other outlets throughout the Wellington region. The new brewery will offer a great Wellington experience for beer lovers, travellers and food lovers alike. With sixteen taps in the bar upstairs, the bar will hero Black Dog’s core range, experimental one-offs and an array of innovative favourites throughout the years. The food menu will feature a range of pizzas, burgers and sharing plates thanks to our Cuba Street neighbours, Grill Meats Beer, Wellington Sea market and Heaven Pizza.

With the brewery out of action for the past few months and an itch to brew, Black Dog has been busy with Cuba Street Neighbours and old friends, Fortune Favours in producing a Belgian-style IPA which will be ready just in time for our opening.

Black Dog Brewery will open on 23rd March between Tuesday and Saturday from 12pm – late and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.
