A good number of submissions received on Dog Control Policy

A wide range of views are included in the 129 submissions received by Council on the city’s Draft Dog Control Policy.

The Dog Control Policy identifies areas where dogs are not allowed, where they must be on a leash, and where they can be exercised without a leash. It also outlines the legal responsibilities of dog owners.

Allowing dogs on-leash in the CBD for a 12-month trial is one of the key changes up for consideration as part of the review.

In addition to the formal consultation, the proposed 12 month trial received high engagement on Council’s Facebook page, receiving close to 800 reactions and over 300 comments.

Over 300 central city businesses responded to a separate survey on the proposed trial.

All feedback and written submissions will be presented to Council in April, with the hearings for submissions planned for the same month.

A final decision on the policy is expected in June.
