Public warned about Animal Control Officer impersonator

Palmerston North City Council has received reports of a man impersonating an Animal Control Officer over the last week.

The person is described as a grey haired male in his 50s wearing orange hi-vis. He identifies himself as “The Dogman” and has been seen using a silver hatchback car.

“People should request proof of identification and expect all of our Animal Control Officers to be in uniform and clearly identified,” says Graeme Gillespie, PNCC Head of Environmental Protection Services.

“Any suspicious behaviour should be immediately reported to the Police.”

Council Animal Control Officers travel in clearly marked Toyota utes with canopies and wear black uniforms embossed with Animal Control Services. Their hi-vis coats are yellow with Animal Control in black lettering on the back.
