Community Groups Receive $2.5 Million Funding From the Southern Trust in First Quarter of 2018

Community groups from Northland to Southland - and places in between - received $2,574,485 from The Southern Trust to support their programmes in the first quarter of 2018.

The Southern Trust – one of the country’s leading gaming trusts – released figures today showing 333 community groups received grants between 1 January 2018 and 31 March 2018.

The grant allocation by region in the first quarter of the year was:

Whangarei District $114,820

Auckland City $161,147

Waikato District $135,800

Hamilton City $ 80,525

South Waikato $ 39,500

Taupo District $ 15,947

Tauranga City $ 71,670

Rotorua District $308,910

Whakatane District $130,900

Opotiki District $ 81,900

New Plymouth District $179,115

Startford District $ 3,915

Tararua District $ 6,145

Horowhenua District $ 50,545

Kaikoura District $ 22,747

Waimkariri District $ 79,500

Christchurch City $ 538,552

Waitaki District $ 3,000

Central Otago District $ 1,000

Queenstown Lakes District $ 55,500

Dunedin City $ 89,007

National grants $132,265

The Southern Trust aims to support community groups working in health, sports, arts, community and education and its allocations by sector were:

Community $1,199,020

Sport $ 779,100

Education $ 295,970

Arts $ 141,780

Health $ 158,615

The Southern Trust CEO and Trustee Karen Shea said “We are pleased that our partnerships with venues across New Zealand provide funds to assist community organisations the length and breadth of the country.”

Community organisations throughout the New Zealand can apply for funding from The Southern Trust. The Trust continually reviews applications with most processed within 20 working days. Requests larger than $30,000 are reviewed at the monthly Board of Trustees meetings.

Ms Shea says community organisations considering applying for funding should firstly call The Southern Trust funding team on 0800 4 CHARITY (0800 42 42 74). “Our team can easily advise on application criteria, which can save organisations a lot of time.”
