FIRST Union response to Go Bus Hamilton

FIRST UNION response, comments can be attributed to Jared Abbott –Transport, Logistics and Manufacturing Secretary

In reference to Go Bus commentary on Hamilton strike tomorrow:

“The claims from Go Bus that it wasn’t aware of the strike are false, at a meeting on the 23rd of March the company was advised by FIRST Union that members would be balloting for strike action.”

“Further, FIRST Union reported in a release last week that strikes would be occurring in Hamilton this week, and subsequently Hamilton staff were threatened by the company on Friday with disciplinary action if they wore their uniform while striking.”

“With regards to the uniform, the threat is unlawful, the strike action would mitigate any responsibility of drivers to follow such a request and as strike action is protected under both New Zealand and international conventions ratified by our Government, any disciplinary action the company attempts to enter into is unlawful.”
