New site to show What’s on Timaru
Timaru District Council Media Release
Aoraki Tourism is launching ‘What’s on Timaru’ with the aim to highlight the wealth of events taking place across the district.
The events calendar, which is available at www.whatsontimaru.co.nz is a bright, modern and mobile responsive site, which shows all the events listed in the Timaru District on Eventfinda. It also provides a gateway to the Aoraki Tourism website, which highlights other things to see and do in the district.
Timaru District Mayor Damon Odey said that Aoraki Tourism are using the Eventfinda platform to power the service, which ensures listings get advertised far and wide.
“We decided to go with using data from a centralised source rather than creating our own platform, as it’s the quickest and most user friendly service we could find for people to upload their listings.
“Doing it this way also means that the information isn’t siloed in a single place. In addition to appearing on What’s On Timaru, listings will also appear on major sites such as Stuff, NZ Herald and Eventfinda itself.
“This means that event managers can upload their event once and it will be seen in a wide variety of places. It also means that organisers of touring events can list all their events on a single site.
“What’s also important is that the majority of visitors are accessing this information on their smartphones, so the site is mobile responsive and is equally as accessible on computer, mobiles and tablets.”
Listing on What’s On Timaru is free for all events.
“People often complain that there is nothing to do across the district, but we know there are lots of things happening, so we’re hoping that this service will bring more local events to the attention of both locals and visitors alike,” said Damon.
What’s on Timaru is available now at whatsontimaru.co.nz Full instructions about how to list your event are available at the site. If organisers already list on Eventfinda, they can just continue to do so, the site will pick up any events happening in the district.
