Kaipara District Council award winning Building Team
Kaipara District Council has won two national awards at the Annual BOINZ Conference and Expo (Building Officials Institute of New Zealand).
Matthew Williams was awarded the Young* Building Control Officer (BCO) of the year award, this goes to a BCO under 35 years old who has shown real growth and passion in the industry. Matthew has been part of the Building team at Kaipara for two years, and in that time has shown a real aptitude and willingness to hone his skills.
Branch of the Year was awarded to the Northland Branch which Kaipara BCO Jamie Nikora accepted in his role as Chairman. This is Jamie’s second year as a winner, after being awarded the Emerging Leaders award last year at the 2017 awards. Jamie has been a part of the Kaipara Council for 6 years and continues to develop and work on growing the upskilling and learning of the Northland Building Control Authorities.
Fran Mikulicic, General Manager of Regulatory, Planning and Policy commented, “This is a fantastic achievement. The hard work, innovative enhancement of our systems, customer service ethos and dedication to building within Kaipara and New Zealand is worthy of these acknowledgments.”
Ms Mikulicic goes on to add, “The Building team at Kaipara District Council also won a national local government award in 2015 for transforming service delivery. This was a result following a major overhaul of our processes and the implementation of online lodging, processing and inspections software. This not only allowed us to serve our customers better, it also enhanced quality, and lifted our efficiency. It has been a privilege to be apart of Kaipara's recovery story.”
Manager, Building Control, Ian McCauley said “Kaipara Building Control Authority has been very fortunate to acquire the valuable services of both Jamie Nikora and Matthew Williams. Both these Building officers carry out their work with enthusiasm, energy and very helpful attitude. They have responded well to the training given in complex building regulations and apply this with a sense of service. It is very pleasing that the well-respected National Building Officials Institute has recognised this and we are proud they are part of our team.”
The awards were announced at the Annual BOINZ Conference and Expo (Building Officials Institute of New Zealand) held at Dunedin Town Hall this month (Subs: 13 May 2018).
