Halbert urges action on Northcote
congestion
Northcote Labour
candidate Shanan Halbert today promised action on Northcote
congestion if elected to Parliament. Shanan has also
welcomed the confirmed regional land transport plan which
shows big progress on major transport projects to ease
congestion in Northcote as elaborated in this article.
Shanan said “Already in this
year’s budget and in the ATAP plan, the Government has
fully funded a plan that will start to get Northcote moving.
If elected MP for Northcote, I will push for more transport
options to unclog our
roads.”
“With Skypath and
Seapath, people who want to walk or cycle to work into town
will be able to do so safely. As the local MP, I’ll work
with the local board and Bike Kaipātiki to make sure that
we get even better and safer cycling infrastructure around
the electorate.”
“Our
communities will be well served by the upgrades to the
Downtown Ferry Terminal. I will campaign hard for cheaper
and more frequent ferries from Beachhaven, Birkenhead, and
Northcote Point. I’ve already met with the Minister of
Transport, members of the local board and Auckland Council
to start figuring out how to implement this part of my
transport plan.”
“Congestion on
the motorway will be eased by the upgrades to the Northern
Expressway. I’m advocating for more bus services from
Northcote and light rail to the North
Shore.”
“This major progress
shows the benefit of a government with the vision and
courage to properly tackle Auckland’s chronic congestion.
If elected, I will be a strong local voice at the government
table to ensure that Northcote gets the transport investment
our community
needs.”
