EQC team attending community insurance drop-in session
A team from the Earthquake Commission will be attending a community session in Kaikōura on Thursday 14 June to discuss claims lodged for the 2016 earthquake.
Kaikōura Event Lead Josh Lindsay says that having staff attend the session is a great way for EQC to work alongside the District Council and insurers to provide information and support about insurance settlements for local residents and to provide help and advice on what to do with their claims.
“The session is a good opportunity for people to talk directly to EQC, private insurers, and representatives from other organisations about their claims and receive the information they need about their property and claim.”
“Our teams have been attending community meetings and information sessions across the country for various hazard events this year. They are a great way for us to connect with people and help them through the sometimes complex insurance/EQC claims process.”
“This information session in Kaikōura follows previous public meetings that have been held in the areas that were most affected by the earthquake. The feedback that we got from those who came along was that they appreciated the opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with their insurer, EQC and others that were present.”
Mr Lindsay says that residents can also talk to one of the RAS/Community Law representatives who will attend these sessions as well.
“The process for managing claims has three parts in general – lodgement, assessment and settlement of valid claims –people should get as much information on the status of their claim through each stage and to gain a sound understanding of their entitlements.
“We encourage people to attend the session and talk to EQC and representatives from the private insurers and those agencies who are also attending.”
