Miromoda set to shine for Matariki

Miromoda set to shine for Matariki

The Miromoda Runway Show is back in Porirua city centre this month for Matariki 2018.

The spectacular night of fashion and creativity will showcase collections from eight of New Zealand's most talented Māori fashion designers, selected from the nationwide Miromoda competition. The winner will be announced after the show.

The city is excited to be hosting Miromoda for its third year at Pātaka Art + Museum, Mayor Mike Tana said.

“It’s always amazing to see the creativity on display and to have our beautiful Pātaka space transformed into a fashion runway,” he said.

“This event is a real highlight for Porirua and a great opportunity to enjoy something pretty special and unique.”

VIP tickets have already sold out but there are general admission tickets available for $15 (plus service fees).

Miromoda also offers a pathway for young people to get experience in the fashion and modelling industry with a model call held earlier this month.

“There was a great turnout at the model call held in our city centre,” Mayor Tana said. “It’s going to be awesome to have local talent walking the runway and being empowered by gaining confidence and experience in the fashion world.”

As well as being part of the city’s Matariki celebrations, the Miromoda show is a Women’s Suffrage 125 event, as part of the national campaign commemorating 125 years of women achieving the right to vote and inspiring future women of New Zealand. Porirua residents have been asked to nominate 25 influential wāhine of Porirua to attend the show as VIPs.

The Miromoda competition is judged by the Indigenous Māori Fashion Apparel Board – a panel made up of Dame Pieter Stewart, founder of NZ Fashion Week, New Zealand Fashion Week Event Manager Janey Evett and Lucire fashion magazine publisher, Jack Yan.

The show is at Pātaka on 30 June from 6.30pm. For tickets or more information visit www.poriruacity.govt.nz/events
