All lanes remain closed on SH16 at Western Springs after fatal crash
The NZ Transport Agency is advising Auckland motorists of significant motorway disruption this morning because of a fatal crash that’s closed State Highway 16 at Western Springs.
The crash happened this morning at 6:40am between a motorcyclist and a rubbish truck just after the St Lukes off ramp on the city-bound side of SH16. Police have closed the motorway to investigate the crash.
The closure is affecting commuter traffic on SH16 and SH18 and on SH20 via the Waterview Tunnel. Traffic is back to Maioro Road on SH20 and is between Royal Road and Lincoln Road on SH16. Local roads are also congested.
The Transport Agency advises motorists to avoid the area and delay their journeys.
Vehicles already on the motorway can exit at the Western Springs off ramp and return to the motorway via the Western Springs on ramp. Using Great North Road is an alternative route.
The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience and understanding and says it’s doing all it can to assist police. Police are not yet able to provide an indication of when the motorway will reopen.
