Time is running out for people interested in having a stall at two of Auckland’s world-renowned cultural events, with only weeks left before applications close for the Auckland Lantern and Pasifika festivals.
Each year, tens of thousands of Aucklanders and visitors attend the multi-day festivals which feature hundreds of local and international performers, artists and artisans – and they’re a prime opportunity for people keen to sell tasty food, or crafts and other products at official stalls.
The 2019 Auckland Lantern Festival, a culmination of Chinese New Year festivities in Auckland, is being held from 14-17 February at the Auckland Domain; Pasifika Festival is on 23-24 March at Western Springs.
The events are both delivered by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), on behalf of Auckland Council. Festival production manager Leisa Siteine says applications for stalls at each festival are closing earlier than in previous years, giving successful applicants more time to prepare.
“The festivals’ popularity and feedback from past stallholders about the process prompted an early call for registrations and an earlier cut-off time.
“Given the size and scale of these events, we want to ensure that stallholders have the most time available to prepare, and naturally we’d like to be able to accommodate as many stalls as possible.”
The Lantern Festival attracts more than 160,000 people and features a variety of food, craft and information stalls.
Pasifika showcases and celebrates Auckland’s Pacific cultures and communities, with different villages representing different cultures.
