Kāpiti Coast District Council has confirmed that the Maclean Park kiosk will be removed intact from the park by Alpha Specialised Movers Ltd and made available to the public for purchase as a relocatable building.

Council Parks and Recreation Manager Alison Law says, “We’ve looked at many options and have come to the decision that this one is the most practical. Removing it intact will incur no cost to Kāpiti ratepayers.”

“The kiosk needs to be removed for improvements work to proceed in Maclean Park. With the kiosk gone, the first stage of the long term development can progress. Part of that stage is to fill in the pond where the kiosk is now, to create more usable space.”

“Following community feedback, Maclean Park’s long-term development has been well mapped out. By the end of June 2019, we expect to have stage one of the development completed, including:

• Removal of the pond and kiosk,

• Expansion of the grass and open space area over the existing pond space,

• Landscaping and contouring to make the new space as usable as possible,

• Installation of a double-barbeque with shelter and additional park furniture, and

• A start to the central path through the park.”

Ms Law says that should the budget allow, Council also intends to relocate the basketball court and begin work on the scooter path in this first stage.

Over 1500 people, businesses, and organisations have shared their ideas for Maclean Park. Using this feedback and working with iwi partners, Council created the park’s management plan that captures the diverse needs of the Kāpiti Coast community and allows for improvements to the park's main attractions over time.
