Celebrity “Bike Gangs” Invade Auckland for Biketober
Celebrity “Bike Gangs” Invade Auckland for Biketober Festival
Five bike gangs are set to
invade Auckland this October, each headed by a famous
face.
The bike gangs represent five personality types
to show how biking can fit into individual lifestyles. Bike
gang ‘membership’ can be determined by a new personality
quiz (found here), developed by cycling advocacy
group Bike Auckland.
The gangs are:
• The
Urbanite gang - lead by comedian and television
host Jeremy Corbett
• The #fitspiration
gang, lead by newsreader Mike
McRoberts
• The Nature Lover gang,
lead by entertainer and Dancing With The Stars
favourite Suzy Cato
• The
#DoItForTheGram gang, lead by The Bachelor
sweethearts Matilda Rice and Art Green,
and;
• The Thrill Seeker gang, lead by
the first Survivor NZ winner Avi
Duckor-Jones
"Bikes aren't just for the avid
cyclist,” says Mike McRoberts.
“Whether you do it
every day, or once a year, you can still reap from the
benefits that cycling has to offer. The quiz helps people
find their very own style, and gives them a sense of how
easy it is to integrate cycling into their
lives."
Fans have the chance to bid on an e-bike date
with their favourite bike gang leader in TradeMe fundraising
auctions. Proceeds go to Bike Auckland, the non profit
organisation working for a better city for people on bikes.
Details of the TradeMe auctions can be found here.
Bike Auckland chair Barb
Cuthbert says the bike gangs are all about celebrating the
increasingly diverse cycling cultures proliferating in
Auckland.
“Most of us learnt to ride a bike growing
up and have fond memories of those days. The quiz is a way
of recovering some of the joy and independence that comes
from cycling in the city.”
The quiz is one of the
first of more than 30 activities in Biketober, the annual
community bike festival through October, presented by Bike
Auckland.
