Upcoming road works on SH1 between Waipara and Amberley

North Canterbury road users who travel on State Highway 1 between Waipara and Amberley will notice road works around the Glasnevin weigh station in coming days.

From October until late November, the NZ Transport Agency is installing roadside technology to screen the weight of heavy vehicles. This work includes installing weigh scales in the road, automatic number plate recognition cameras, and electronic signs on the side of the road. There will also be road resurfacing and cable laying taking place.

This work is part of the “Weigh Right” Programme, a road safety initiative that will use roadside technology and intelligent software to direct potentially over-load vehicles into 12 commercial vehicle safety centres (formerly called weigh stations) throughout the country.(Vehicles which are the right/ compliant weight will not be delayed on their journey.)

Downer is carrying out the work on behalf of the Transport Agency.

Transport Agency Principal Project Manager Graham Taylor says people using this section of highway may experience minor delays at times when road works are taking place.

The Transport Agency thanks everyone for their patience and for taking care while this work is completed.
