Hamilton: $50,000 on offer for waste reduction ideas
$50,000 on offer for waste reduction ideas
If you’ve got an innovative idea for
reducing waste, Hamilton City Council is offering a share of
a $50,000 fund to help get that idea off the ground.
The Waste Reduction Ideas Fund allocates $50,000 annually from the money the Council receives from the Government’s national waste levy to fund projects that encourage long-term waste minimisation action and behaviour change.
Businesses, Iwi/Maori organisations and education and community groups can apply for standard funding grants of between $1000 and $5000 for smaller projects and feasibility studies, or funding between $5000 and $15,000 for larger projects that will have a significant waste reduction impact.
Charlotte Catmur, Waste Minimisation Advisor says the fund is a big part of cutting waste in the city, now and in the future.
“There are a lot of groups with great initiatives for reducing our city’s waste and we want to help accelerate their work. We want to continue to encourage and support forward-thinking waste minimisation projects and this fund allows us to do this,” said Ms Catmur.
Previous fund recipients have included Kaivolution a food rescue program which collects unsold food from local businesses and distributes it to local charities, and Eco Emporium where student volunteers repair and upcycle unwanted items.
Applications for the Waste Reduction Fund
