Be Someone’s Star this Christmas and help people in need across Wellington
The Wellington City Mission’s Christmas Star Appeal gives you the chance to “be someone’s star” and help people in need across the Wellington region this Christmas.
The Christmas Star Appeal
is officially launching on Monday 29
October and there are lots of ways you can get
involved – including The Mission’s iconic Walk
of Fame!
Businesses, individuals, families and groups can get their name or logo on a Hollywood Walk of Fame-style star, which will be displayed on Wellington’s waterfront for the month of December. Each star represents families being supported by The Mission this Christmas and beyond. Stars range in price, starting at $100 for an Individual/Group Star – the perfect star for your family, friends or colleagues! Pre-order your star now on ChristmasStar.co.nz.
Another exciting part of the Christmas Star Appeal is The Mission’s annual Street Day Collection, which is taking place on Friday 7 December. Keep an eye out for their collectors around the Wellington region for an opportunity to donate. Donations are also accepted online at any time via ChristmasStar.co.nz, and look out for their special donation envelope in The Dominion Post on Thursday 8 November.
This Christmas The Mission is also launching a brand new partnership with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra! At the NZSO's Christmas concerts in December, you will have the chance to donate food or funds for those who are struggling. Check out ChristmasStar.co.nz for more details.
Finally the iconic Pack the Bus will be taking place again thanks to our partners The Breeze Wellington! The bus will be travelling around schools and supermarkets from 26 November – 7 December, collecting food and gifts and spreading Christmas joy.
The Mission is so thankful for support of this appeal. By getting involved, you will make a significant difference in the life of a Wellington family or individual who is struggling. You will be their star this Christmas, bringing them hope, joy, and courage by showing that people in their community care.
One of the families who received help from The Mission last Christmas has shared about the impact this had on their lives: “We’ll always remember our daughter’s first Christmas. We were together as a family in our beautiful new home, which was full of love and Christmas spirit. Our Mission social worker was a big part of that, because she’d given us an amazing surprise a couple of days before Christmas. She visited us with toys and a bag of Christmas food – which we would otherwise have gone without.”
Help more families like this one today. For more information about the Christmas Star Appeal, please visit ChristmasStar.co.nz. Thank you for being someone’s star!
Last Christmas hundreds of people across the Wellington region were stars to those who are struggling. Because of this generous support, The Mission was able to feed approximately 3,000 people through Christmas food parcels and provide 1,700 children with new gifts! They also distributed donations to 38 other social service agencies across the region.
