Beltway Cycleway consultation opens today

Hutt City Council’s plan to change the way the city moves takes another step forward this month, with the next round of community engagement on the new Beltway Cycleway.

The new route, which will eventually run from Seaview through the east of the city and connect with the Hutt River Trail in Taita, is part of a $28 million investment by Council and NZTA in a network of walking and cycling routes which will provide many benefits for the city.

Council’s Senior Project Engineer Simon Cager says “In collaboration with the community and key stakeholders last year we considered a range of possible routes and designs for the Beltway Cycleway. We have been developing those ideas into more detailed designs for the Northern and Central Sections and it’s time to share them with the community.

“The Southern Section still requires more development and we will engage with the community again once the design in this area has been further developed.

“It’s important we get feedback on these designs so we can refine them and move towards construction.”

The community engagement on the Central and Northern Sections starts on Monday 19 November and people are invited to provide feedback at huttcity.govt.nz/beltway
