Every Body is a Treasure wins for Upper Hutt

Friday, 23 November 2018

Upper Hutt’s body positive advocacy group wins the Health and Wellbeing category at the Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 23 NOV 2018—Every Body is a Treasure Charitable Trust has won the Health and Wellbeing Award at the recent Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards. Based in Upper Hutt, the trust delivers a number of body positive festivals around New Zealand aimed at tween and teen girls, and their mothers.

The Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards are designed to recognise and acknowledge the valuable work of community groups and their volunteers. Each year finalists are selected as category winners at their local councils’ Community Awards and are then judged for the Regional Community Awards event. Upper Hutt City Council’s Community Development team administers and hosts the awards at a local level, in partnership with Wellington Airport and Wellington Community Trust.

Other Upper Hutt finalists acknowledged at the Regional Awards include Te Ataarangi, who deliver Te Reo lessons at Ōrongomai Marae, the Upper Hutt Multicultural Council, Upper Hutt Forest and Bird, and Maidstone United Netball Club. Also acknowledged was the Hub, a café and op-shop selling coffee and affordable items, using the principles of social enterprise to provide a means to improve social wellbeing and support people in need.

“We are so grateful for our volunteers, without them, many opportunities and services in our community wouldn’t exist,” says Upper Hutt Mayor, Wayne Guppy. “These awards are designed to acknowledge the hard work that they do, and thank them for their tireless contribution to our city and region. The difference they make is huge and we appreciate the positive difference they make to peoples’ lives.”
