Countdown Appeal raises money for Children’s Ward

3 December 2018

The redecoration of the Children’s Ward at Palmerston North Hospital is to become a reality thanks to the Countdown Kid’s Hospital Appeal.

On Wednesday 28th at Countdown Feilding, Child Health Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist Robbie Lane and Children’s Ward Associate Charge Nurse Joshua Puts were presented with a cheque for $37,000 on behalf of the 10 Countdown supermarkets in the Manawatu/Horowhenua region who collected donations for the appeal.

Robbie Lane said the money will be used to freshen up the Children’s Ward, with colourful, nature-inspired decals and new paintwork. They will also be able to purchase some breastfeeding equipment for the neonatal unit.

She said the redecoration will make the place a little less intimidating for children. “Coming in to hospital is scary for kids, so a place that’s bright and colourful will make it more inviting for some of our smallest patients.”

The campaign raised over $1 million nationwide, all of which goes towards children’s hospitals and wards.
