Wellington Families to Benefit from New Sports Centre

Wellington, Monday 17 December 2018 - A new state-of-the-art sports centre, officially named the RICOH Sports Centre, which saw businesses, sports organisations and individuals raise almost $3.3 million, was officially handed over to Fraser Park Sportsville today.

Bringing together a range of codes, the new centre will benefit the region with high-quality sports facilities and a safe and welcoming meeting place for the community. Cuttriss Consultants sponsors one of the new international-grade squash courts

Colin McElwain, Cuttriss Director, says it was an easy decision to sponsor the new RICOH Sports Centre.

“When we first saw the concept plans, we knew straight away the incredible value of this project. We’ve seen first-hand how successful the Walter Nash redevelopment and the Naenae Bowling Club facilities have been in bringing the community together. The centre and its modern facilities will very likely encourage more people into an active lifestyle, and will become the social heart of the local community - something Cuttriss strongly supports,” says Colin McElwain.

Cuttriss also provided civil engineering expertise during the design and construction phases of the project. Ray Wallace, Mayor of Lower Hutt, says support from local businesses has been an important part of building the RICOH Sports Centre.

“Seeing local businesses and individuals come together to raise almost $3.3 million is fantastic and shows that our community recognises the importance of these facilities and the benefits the RICOH Sports Centre will have on Lower Hutt and the wider region. Without the support of sports clubs, businesses and the community this project would not have been possible,” says Ray Wallace.

Colin McElwain says Cuttriss congratulates the organisations behind the project.

“We congratulate The Hutt City Community Facilities Trust, Hutt City Council and Fraser Park Sportsville for having the foresight and perseverance to bring this project to a very successful conclusion.”

Due to be open to the public from early February 2019 the centre includes six squash courts, indoor artificial turf training space, sport administration offices and meeting facilities, ten changing rooms, a cafe, bar and restaurant. It also has viewing decks for the surrounding sports fields.
