Was a busy day at the beaches
yesterday and four beaches boasted head counts in excess of
1000 people. Difficult conditions on the West Coast resulted
in both Raglan and Sunset closing their flags for a
time.
All 26 rescues were from West Coast beaches. These were at Muriwai where two males were caught in a rip north of the flagged area. Both were picked up by an IRB and left the beach in a stable condition.
Other rescues
were at Bethells, United North Piha, Piha, Kariotahi,
Sunset, Raglan and Support 1 (JetSki on the West Coast).
Lifeguards also faced a variety of first aid
situations including severely burnt feet at Piha due to hot
black sand on the West Coast. The patient involved received
ambulance assistance. At Ruakaka a male with a history of
hypertension also showed signs of a heart attack. The
patient was monitored in first aid and then taken to the
hospital in the ambulance.
