Mobility parking on the agenda
Queenstown Lakes District Council’s (QLDC) new Traffic and Parking subcommittee will meet for the first time this week, considering recommended changes to the use of mobility parking spaces in Queenstown, Frankton and Arrowtown.
QLDC General Manager Property and Infrastructure, Peter Hansby said the newly formed subcommittee would consider and implement a range of changes recommended under the new Traffic and Parking bylaw, due to come into effect on 1 March 2019.
“The new bylaw outlines a number of changes to the way Council will manage parking restrictions, zones, permits and other traffic controls across the district. The group will play an important role in making sure these are implemented in a timely manner, that processes and systems are clearly documented and the community is kept well informed of any changes,” he said.
First on the agenda is to consider new time restrictions for three mobility spaces in the Queenstown Town Centre, two on Arrowtown’s main street and one in Frankton.
“We received a number of submissions last year highlighting issues with the current mobility parking system and all-day time restrictions in central areas. We’ve taken that on board and recommended some changes to address the concerns,” Mr Hansby said.
Also being considered is the formalisation of a rule that allows mobility permit holders to park for double the posted time restriction.
“For example anyone holding a mobility permit could remain in a P60 for two hours, or a P30 for one hour for no additional charge,” Mr Hansby said.
The first Traffic and Parking Subcommittee meeting will be held on Wednesday 30 January in the Council Chambers in Queenstown at 3.30pm. The full agenda can be read online here.
