Prepare your taste buds, the Night Noodle Markets is in town
The Night Noodle Markets are taking over North Hagley
Park from Waitangi Day next week, running for an extended 12
nights from 4pm to 10pm daily.
As we countdown the days before the gates open to thousands of hungry Cantabrians, here’s everything you need to know to get the most out of your Night Noodle Markets experience.
Who’s going to be there?
Melbourne-based Hoy Pinoy’s BBQ skewers have become synonymous with the Night Noodle Markets experience, but they’re bringing something new to Christchurch. Co-owner Brendan Phillis says, “We’re super excited to showcase our Hoy Pinoy Lechon (slow-roasted pork). It has been a centrepiece in Australia for a couple of years now and finally we can bring it to New Zealand for the first time!”
Local vendors - newcomers and regulars alike - are also preparing to make a mark and showcase their best Asian bites.
Owner of first-time-stallholder Mumbaiwala, Anup Nathu, says: “We’re thrilled to be part of the Night Noodle Markets for the first time and to bring the Christchurch community a taste of our Indian street food.”
Bali Thai Cuisine owner Ulfatual Rohmah says: “I'm so happy and excited to be part of the Night Noodle Markets again - it will be our fourth time serving!”
What’s on the menu?
A total of 23 food stallholders are set to satisfy all tastes and preferences, plus there are plenty of options for vegans, vegetarians, and other dietary requirements as well - check out the menu here.
Award-winning brewer Moa Beer and Crafters Union Wine have the drinks sorted, and there will be a full range of non-alcoholic beverages straight from the Coke Caravan.
What else do I need to know?
The Night Noodle Markets is free to enter and open to all ages (as well as dogs on leashes!). It’s a completely cashless events and food options range from $5 to $20. All stallholders accept major credit/debit cards (excluding AMEX), and have contactless, Apple Pay, and Google Pay facilities.
Brand-new this year is free event Wi-Fi and a mobile event guide (text “noodle” to 332 to find out more). As always there is a wealth of awesome entertainment on every night, and if you’re heading to Sparks on Saturday 16 February, make sure you drop by and grab a pre-concert feast as markets will open early at 1pm.
Take me to the food!
There are two entrances, one on Park Terrace and one on Armagh Street. When getting to and from the Night Noodle Markets, please plan ahead as public parking space will be limited.
With other events and projects going on in the city, Christchurch Transport suggests to allow extra time and plan ahead before coming into town - such as by using public transport or walking.
