Funding available for local arts groups projects

Get a helping hand for your arts group or creative project through the Creative Communities Scheme.

We're taking applications for the current funding round until Friday 29 March 2019.

This round of funding is for projects that will take place between 29 March 2019 and 1 March 2020.

The Creative Coromandel - He Mana Toi Moehau Trust Board, made up of representatives from across the Coromandel, administers the Creative Communities Scheme funds on behalf of Creative New Zealand.

The Board members were pleased with the calibre of applications last year, which represented a wide range of art mediums, with an increase in Toi Maori (Maori art) applications. Twenty applications were received with a total of $61,022.08 requested, however the Board only had funds of $12,162.50 available.

Funding is awarded to projects rather than the people undertaking the project. Applications need to meet one or more of the following criteria to be eligible for the funding:

• Broad community involvement - The project will create opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts activities.
• Diversity - The project will support the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity.
• Young people - The project will enable and encourage young people (under 18 years) to engage with and actively participate in the arts.

The Board was appreciative of the effort that applicants in the last funding round had made and noted the following general guidance for this round of applicants:

• Provide dates for events.
• Provide the name of the tutor and a briefing on each one.
• Remember the timing of the projects e.g. projects that start before the date of the funding round cannot be considered.
• Advise if the project will still go ahead if a portion of the funding request is granted.
• Cross-check any budget figures that are provided.
• Consider the eligibility criteria as set out in the applicants guide.
• Please do not be confined by the space provided for each question in the application form. Provide as much detail as possible about your event even if it means you supply extra pages with the application.
