Life-Saving Missions In June - Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter impacted the lives of 60 patients over the month of June, an almost 30% increase compared to April. These missions included 34 inter-hospital transfers, 12 medical events, 1 rescue, 10 rural/farm incidents and 3 motor vehicle accidents. Rural missions have doubled over the month, with 10 missions taking place in rural or remote areas and majority of overall callouts were to events that took place at home. The most visited location the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was seen at included Rotorua (4), Paeroa (3) and Tokoroa (5).

The month started with the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter being tasked to Rotorua Hospital to transport an infant who was suffering from a serious medical event. The young patient was flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Sunday June 12, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to a quad bike rollover in a forest near Tahuna, where a man had sustained injuries. The onboard Critical Care Flight Paramedic treated the patient before he was flown to Waikato Hospital.

The next day, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Otorohanga for a young boy who was suffering from a medical condition. The patient was flown, with his mother alongside, to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Friday, June 17, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Whenuakite, on the Coromandel Peninsula, for a woman who was suffering from a serious medical event. The patient was flown, with her son alongside, to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Tuesday, June 21, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Waihi for an infant who was suffering from a medical condition. The young patient was flown with his mother alongside to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

The next day, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Paeroa for a woman in her 50's who was suffering from a medical event. The patient was airlifted to Waikato Hospital for further care.

On Thursday, June 23, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Otorohanga for a man who was kicked by a cow, sustaining a leg injury. The patient was flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Saturday, June 25, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Onemana for a woman who had suffered from a medical event. The woman was flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Wednesday, June 29, the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Piarere, SH29, for a motor vehicle accident. A man in his 60's had sustained injuries and was airlifted to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

The month ended with the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter returning to Paeroa for a woman in her 50's who was suffering from a medical event. The onboard crew flew the patient to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.
