Jane O’Loughlin Standing For Wellington City Council
I’m excited to announce I am standing for Wellington City Council, for a role as councillor representing the Lambton/Pukehīnau ward.
I’m standing for smart sustainability. This means getting the best environmental results for the scarce dollars we have available. It means closely interrogating the decisions we’re making to ensure we’re not committing the city to decades of debt for very little return.
I’ve worked in climate change for a long time and I’m determined to support our city to transition to a low carbon future. But right now we’re seeing proposals put forward in the name of climate change and the environment that are actually causing more harm than good:
• Golden Mile transport plans that will slow
buses down and make cycling less attractive
•
Unrealistic mass rapid transit plans that get us nowhere
fast and actually increase carbon emissions
• Housing
plans that will send native timber houses to landfill in
order to build costly townhouses that don’t address the
housing need.
Wellington people have lost confidence in their council representatives due to their inability to work together towards a vision we can all buy into.
I’m an independent candidate, and if I am elected I will listen to people’s concerns, engage constructively with all councillors, and make coherent decisions that are best for Wellington and its future.

I’ve lived in Aro Valley, Highbury, Te Aro and Mount Victoria during my two decades in Wellington. I’ve got a record of community involvement as well as a solid career in the public sector and journalism.
