If you're looking to stand for Mayor, Council or a Community Board in the coming elections, get your nomination in early.

The candidate nomination period opened on Friday 15 July and it closes at noon sharp (12pm) on Friday 12 August.

The seats up for election are Mayor, nine Councillors across our four wards, and 20 Community Board members (four in each of our five Community Boards).

Those considering standing for election shouldn’t ignore the need to submit their nomination form with ample time. If there’s a detail in your paperwork that must be corrected, you’ll need time to do this and resubmit. You wouldn’t want to miss this chance to represent the community because of an administrative detail.

"Being an elected member for local government is a big ask," says our Council's Governance and Strategy Group Manager Laurna White. "There are many complex issues and we need people who have a broad range of skills and experience as well as financial literacy. Our elected members need to be strategic thinkers who can consider all our communities and voices to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of the entire district."

If you're advertising your candidacy, make sure you understand the legal requirement to include an authorisation statement. Go to tcdc.govt.nz/election and select 'Stand as a Candidate'.

Pay for elected members is listed on the Remuneration Authority website.

Live in the Coromandel? Go to vote.nz to register on the Parliamentary Roll to vote or to update your details.

Own a property in the Coromandel but don't normally live here? You can vote here. Make sure you are on the Parliamentary Roll and then register on the Ratepayer Electoral Roll. Full details are on our website at tcdc.govt.nz/election.

Voting papers are mailed out from 16 September and voting closes at 12pm (noon) on 8 October.
